First, a little history (because strategy > surface)

Brand archetypes are based on deep psychological theory, thanks to legends like:

  • Sigmund Freud – introduced the idea of the subconscious mind
  • Carl Jung – created the collective unconscious and 12 universal archetypes
  • Joseph Campbell – mapped those archetypes into timeless story metaphors

That’s right: this isn’t new. It’s timeless strategy that works because it taps into how humans connect and process meaning.

What IS a Brand Archetype, exactly?

It’s the emotional identity your audience subconsciously connects with when they experience your brand.

You’re not “just” a coach or strategist or healer…

You’re:

  • the Outlaw who breaks rules and builds new paths
  • the Caregiver who holds space and supports transformation
  • the Hero who empowers mastery and momentum
  • the Innocent who spreads optimism and simplicity

…and 8 more, each with unique values, messaging tones, and visual energy.

Here’s how to find your brand archetype (or combo)

💡 Step 1: Start from the CORE.

Ask: What kind of transformation do I help people create?

  • Do I provide structure (organize, lead, innovate)?
  • Do I help people leave a mark (empower, liberate, challenge)?
  • Do I offer a spiritual journey (guide toward truth, wisdom, freedom)?
  • Do I help people connect (belong, relate, nurture)?

💡 Step 2: Narrow into one of the 3 outer expressions.

Example: If you offer liberation… you might be the Outlaw

If you help people connect and nurture, you might be the Caregiver or Lover.

💡 Step 3: Match to your business goals + audience needs.

Your brand shouldn’t just reflect who you are—it should amplify what your audience is already looking for.

How to bring your brand archetype to life

Once you lock in your archetype(s), weave it into every piece of your brand:

  • Messaging: Your tone, stories, and word choice should FEEL like your archetype. (An Outlaw doesn’t sound like a Sage, ya feel me?)
  • Visuals: Yes, colors matter. Every archetype has an energy—choose visuals that match your message.
  • Offers: Is your program structured for rebels or nurturers? Are you leading a movement or providing mastery?

⚡And remember: You don’t have to fit in a single box.

Many powerful brands blend 1-2 archetypes for richness and depth. (I’m part Outlaw, part Creator myself.)
